A friend of mine recently asked for advice on what to do about her current weight. She's lost quite a bit and I'm so proud of her, but she can't get past a certain weight. It's as though her body has just decided that, even though she's still working out and eating healthy, it doesn't want to lose any more. She could still use to lose a bit more weight, so this is what I told her:
1. Make sure to eat something small and healthy every few hours to keep your metabolism stoked. Plus, this helps overcome later-in-the-day or nighttime cravings.
2. Increase your cardio. Try adding sprinting intervals to a normal jog, or jogging intervals to a typical walk. Go longer or faster during your typical workout. You can also try doing cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
3. Change up your routine. Your body becomes accustomed to the same old thing day in and day out, so try something new and different today. Your body will be challenged in ways it's not used to. Try a new gym class, add some new exercises to your routine, get a friend to take you through her workout, or buy a new exercise DVD.
4. Look over your diet again. Make sure you're not finding yourself snacking on your kid's leftovers, or having a cheat meal one too many times during the week. Try not to eat as many carbs later in the evening. Make sure your portions are small.
Now, I'm off to put Emma to sleep! Hope this helps all of you who find yourself at a frustrating standstill!
Amanda
